Sanskriti - Day 5

Sanskriti - Day 5 18/9/22

- By Gautam Prabhu

After the incredible quizzes of Day 4 that were mostly restricted to one room, the festive mood returned to the rest of the MCOPS building as another set of events took place on Day 5. You could hear the hooting and the clapping as soon you entered the campus as people cheered on the participants.

Being a Sunday, the events started quite early from around 10 am and lasted till 8 in the evening. Unfortunately, due to some logistical issues, the clay modelling event had to be cancelled. The organizers announced it the day before, to the dismay of the participants, but they were assured they’d get their registration fees back.

The day started with the Debate and Eastern Solo Dance competitions concurrently. The Eastern Solo Dance participants were supposed to perform on songs in Hindi or any other Indian language with a time limit of 4 min per performance. Most performers used a medley of various beautiful songs while the audience cheered them on. The room was brightly lit, but it was the enthusiasm and energy of the dancers that really made it shine. While the ground floor echoed the raucous cheering of the audience, the first floor had a stoic silence as the debate participants waited patiently for their turn to make their case. The Debate was a team event with two people per team, where one person had to speak for the motion, and the other had to speak against the motion. The teams had to debate whether the monarchial system was superior to democracy, which seemed very relevant given the recent passing of the world’s longest reigning monarch. Each member had three minutes to put their points forward and an additional minute to answer any questions the judges had for them.

Room 127 then played host to the Mimicry competition, which was visibly much anticipated as people thronged to see the participants. And boy, they didn't let anyone down. It turned out to be a laughter riot as performers hilariously mimicked beloved movie characters such as Munna Bhai, Circuit, Raj from DDLJ and many more. Even the judges found it hard to contain their laughter as they tried to score each participant objectively. Overall it was an extremely fun event.

This ended the proceedings for the morning as everyone took a lunch break for a couple of hours. Right after that, it was time for the Art Installation event. This event had teams with a maximum of 3 members per team with the teams allowed to choose their own themes for the installation. They had 2 hours to get the entire installation ready.

This brought us to the last two events of the day, Western Group Singing and Collage making. Western Group Singing had only three participating teams, but that didn't stop it from being a really fun one to attend as all the teams sang beautifully with one team not even using mics or karaoke for their performance. The day came to an end with the Collage making competition as teams of 3 raced against time to create a beautiful collage in 2 hours. The topics they had to choose from were - “Threatened Flora and Fauna”, “Udupi- The temple city” and “Emerging trends in science and technology”. With this Day 5 of Sanskriti came to a close with everyone eagerly awaiting the final day’s events over at TMA Pai Halls.
