Sanskriti - Day 4
Sanskriti Day 4 -17/9/22
Day 4 of this beautiful week-long cultural fest, that is Sanskriti’ 22, being held at the MCOPS campus had a lot of exciting and exhilarating events spanning through the length of the entire day, from 8 AM through 7 PM. The same hall/room, was assigned to host all the events happening on that day, that is New Lecture Hall 9. Most of the preliminary rounds of all the events had the same question paper format and since they were all in the form of a quiz, there was only a restricted time given to all the teams of participants to answer all the questions.
The hall was
filled to the brim with enthusiastic teams of student participants. There was
so much enthusiasm among the students, to participate, that the hall fell short
of seats to accommodate all those present. Most of the preliminary selections pf
the events, had to have two rounds, to accommodate more participants
The first prelim to take place was that of Spot
Photography, wherein the participants were required to bring their own digital
cameras. The participants had to capture 3 photographs on the theme given by
the organizers, on the spot, such that, there was no mixing or morphing of the
photos. Software like photoshop for enhancing the images were not allowed.
Submission of monochrome images was not permitted. Only multicoloured processed
images were allowed. Any other additional instructions were given at the venue
and the participants had to bring an empty SD Card with themselves, which was
checked before the start of the competition. The judging criteria wad that of
creativity, the delivered idea, relevance to the given theme, originality and
the perception of the viewer.
The rules for the General Quiz Prelims were that teams could have 3 participants each, the question papers were handed to one from each team. The participants had 10 minutes, to discuss within their team and answer 25 questions. There was no room for cheating or rule breaking, with all the Cultural CRs keeping a constant vigilance over the rows of participants to prevent the use of phones. The hall turned silent, with the buzz of the students’ discussion amongst their teams echoing off the walls as they worked on the answers against the clock.
The next rounds of selections were for the event Potpourri. The participants in their teams of 3, had only 10 minutes to a question paper consisting of puzzle games like that of crossword, word search and riddles to challenge one’s mind. This prelim was more interesting with more lively discussions as compared to the general quiz rounds of selection, due to more puzzle-based questions and riddles as opposed to the previous general knowledge-based test.
Potpourri prelims were followed by that of the TV Show Quiz (Prelims), which was in the same question paper format, with 10 minutes to answer 25 questions. However, the theme of this quiz was different as the questions were based on old shows and series that used to air on television channels, as well as that of the OTT platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime. Unlike the other selection rounds of the other events so far, participants could make teams of either three or two.
The last event that had its selection or preliminary rounds was that of Antakshari and it was surprising to see the selections being held in the same quiz format, with 3 participants per team being given 15 minutes to answer questions based in and around the theme of Bollywood music and movies, with questions like identifying the song and the movie it is from etc.
After all the preliminary rounds of all the events had
been conducted, by about 11:45 AM, the finals were to start post 1 PM to give
enough time for students to have a break and for the hall to be setup for the
finals of the events and to accommodate a large audience as well as the
participants who had reached the finals as well as setting up technical
equipment required for smooth functioning of the finals.
The General Quiz finals had teams of three participants each and 6 teams in total. It had been divided into 6 sub-rounds with some basic rules that varied for each of the rounds.
1. The first sub round was that of “Mixed bag” which had a mixed set of questions thrown to all the teams such that all the teams get 2 questions each, and only 45 seconds to answer. Questions passed on the other teams, have a 10 second time limit to answer the questions. Each correct answer gets the teams awarded 10 points and 5 points if the question has been passed to the next team. There was no negative marking in this round. The end of this round had Team 5 leading the scoreboard with 28 points, Team 4 scored 15, Team 3 with 13, Team 6 with 10 and Teams 1 and 2 with 5 and 3 points respectively.
2. The second round was that of Spelling Bee based on correctly spelling names and words. Teams were awarded 10 points for the correct answer. Team 6 took to leading with 35 points, Teams 3,4 and 1 had the next highest scores with 33, 28 and 25 points respectively. Round 3 was that of Logos and Audio, which is self-explanatory, the teams had to correctly identify logos and audios. Team 1 led this round, winning with 25 points followed by Teams 4 and a tie between Teams 5 and 6, who had won 23 and tied at 20 points respectively.
The fifth round was titled Pick Your Poison and was unique in the sense that there was no passing of questions allowed in this round and this round also had negative marking, that is, points were deducted if the wrong answer was given. Different levels to choose for each team, with different negative marking if answered wrong and there was no repetition of levels. Team 5 took the lead in this round with 35 points followed by Team 6 with -5 points as well as a tie between Teams 1, 3 and 4 at a score of -15.
Round 6 was of Rapid Fire where the first team, that is the fastest team to answer gets the most points and the top score was that of Team 1 who won 30 points due to their quick and correct responses, followed by that of Teams 4 and 5 who got 28 and 115 points respectively.
Before the big reveal of the teams that placed in the top 3 positions, I’d like to mention that some questions from each round were also thrown open to the audience so as to keep them lively and engaged in the quiz as well.
The first prize for the event of General Quiz was bagged by Anand and Dylan, the second to Akhil, Aishwarya and Sohaib and the third to Somnath, Shivmani and Yashodan.

· Round 2: Who said to Whom? – In this round the teams were shown certain dialogues from shows/series and they had to identify which character said it to whom. The name of the show was mentioned.
· Round 3: Act It Out - This was an interesting round to behold, as it turned into a very serious yet enjoyable game of charades, where one participant from each team was to act the name of the show they picked, and the other two team members had to guess what show it was.
